The 6 Days Marangu Route, also known as the Coca-Cola Route, is the most established and comfortable way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
It is the only route offering mountain hut accommodation, making it ideal for trekkers who prefer sleeping in shelters rather than tents. This itinerary includes an extra acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, significantly increasing summit success rates while allowing climbers to enjoy scenic views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
• Altitude: 1,860m – 2,720m
• Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
After registration at Marangu Gate, the trek begins through lush rainforest filled with towering trees and colobus monkeys. The trail is gradual and well-defined, leading to Mandara Hut, where you’ll rest and enjoy your first night on the mountain.
• Altitude: 2,720m – 3,720m
• Trekking Time: 5–6 hours
Leaving the rainforest behind, the landscape opens into heath and moorland. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of Mawenzi Peak. The day ends at Horombo Hut, a lively resting point with panoramic scenery.
• Altitude: 3,720m
This important acclimatization day allows your body to adjust to altitude. You’ll take a short hike towards Zebra Rocks or higher slopes, then return to Horombo Hut for rest. This “climb high, sleep low” approach greatly improves summit chances.
• Altitude: 3,720m – 4,700m
• Trekking Time: 6–7 hours
The trail crosses the alpine desert between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The terrain becomes more rugged and dry as you approach Kibo Hut, your base for the summit attempt. After an early dinner, rest and prepare for the night climb.
• Altitude: 4,700m – 5,895m – 3,720m
• Trekking Time: 10–14 hours
Around midnight, begin the challenging ascent to Gilman’s Point, then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, descend back to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest.
• Altitude: 3,720m – 1,860m
• Trekking Time: 5–6 hours
A steady descent through moorland and rainforest leads back to Marangu Gate. After signing out, you’ll receive your summit certificates before transfer back to Moshi or Arusha.
